A Pair of Good Online Photo Backup Programs

May 18, 2009 · Filed Under Tech News · Comment

Have you ever been in a position where you lost most of your pictures of family events such as birthdays?  If so, then you would know that said pictures are irretrievable once lost.  The use of online photo backup programs, such as Mozy or Carbonite, is a way to keep up with those important and irreplacable digital photos.  Many reviews of Mozy Backup and Carbonite backup reviews are extremely positive.  Some of the benefits of both types of backup programs are automatic backup and the ability to synchronize between computers.  Without online photo backup programs such as these, many people would have a hard time remembering to back up their important and irreplacable photos.

Many people like to save their photos on their computers, but what happens when that computer crashes and loses data? If you don't have a backup copy of your photographs some where, you run the risk of having them gone forever.  The use of online photo backup programs such as Mozy and Carbonite help people save their irreplacable pictures.

According to some Moxy backup reviews, the Mozy backup program is great for people who want to save their photos for a cheap cost. There's a no fee free Mozy account that allows you 2 GB of storage, although that's not as much space as you might think and for $5 a month you can upgrade to unlimited GB of space in your backup account.  The Mozy online photo backup is considered a great program for home users.

Carbonite, on the other hand, has no free version, but has unlimited backup capability for a low price.  According to one Carbonite backup review, it is extremely easy to see which files have been backed up.  When a file or folder is backed up with Carbonite, it gains a small dot next to the icon.  The program also puts a drive under My Computer, which is the place where all of a person’s files are backed up.

It is always good to have online photo backup, especially if a person has many irreplacable and memorable pictures on his or her computer.  Both the Mozy and Carbonite backup programs are great to have. Carbonite offers a 14 day free trial of their unlimited storage account, while Mozy has their completely free 2 G free account, their unlimited account has no free option.  Always look for reviews on both products before getting them, though, because one may have features that the other program does not.  Saving those important and irreplacable photos may help prevent a tragic loss of memories in case the computer crashes and loses data.

How to Backup your Computer and Keep Data Safe

The majority of us know that we should be backing up our data.If you’ve been lucky enough to never have a computer crash on you then realize that you’re a lucky fella and there’s never been a better time then right now to start backing up your important data.

There’s a few tips and items you should familiarize yourself with before you select a backup method to use. Knowing what you want backed up, remembering to keep it simple and do your home work are just a few of the items you need to keep in mind when making your decision.

Know what Files and Data to Backup

OK, so first things first don’t go out and just buy the first backup program you see. Before you do that you should determine how many files, what folders and data it is you want to backup. Some of the software programs for backup are designed to specifically create a whole system backup, however this is probably more then the average PC user really needs.

The majority of home PC users need their photos, videos, and Documents backed up but can skip all the system stuff. This can make things a little to high tech for someone who’s just an average joe or jane PC user.

Keep it simple to be consistent

More features in a piece of backup software or online service doesn’t automatically make that service or program better.Trust me when I tell you to avoid buying a service or program that is very feature rich. Get the features you need but to many features slows down the backup process, this will in turn make it difficult for you to stick to a regular backup routine.

Instead opt for a simple program, more specifically one that backups up your files all on it’s own and only requires a one time setup. Two online backup services that meet these criteria are Carbonite Backup and Mozy Backup.

Research Before you Buy

Before you swipe the credit card or decide on how you’re going to backup your data take a bit of time look for online backup reviews. This just confirms that the software or service you’ve chosen is every bit as good as it claims to be.

A few minutes doing some research can save you a big headache later on if a service isn’t easy to restore files that are backed up, or worse doesn’t backup data correctly.
